For each major in a degree program, the institution assigns responsibility for program coordination, as well as for curriculum development and review, to persons academically qualified in the field. In those degree programs for which the institution does not identify a major, this requirement applies to a curricular area or concentration.

RATIONALE FOR COMPLIANCE JUDGMENT

Nashville State Technical Community College (NSCC) assigns a full-time faculty member who is academically qualified in the field [1] to serve as Program Coordinator for each degree and certificate program. Program Coordinators have released time from instruction and provide leadership in the areas of curriculum and instruction, strategic planning, advising, scheduling, recruitment, and technology.  Coordinators provide the leadership in program accreditation activities or program review/academic audit activities for their discipline area.  Coordinators also assist in the planning of advisory committee meetings and seek input from advisory committee members in areas such as curriculum and course content, industry trends, hardware/software, and employer needs. Minutes from several advisory committee meetings [2] are provided as documentation.

A job description [3] outlining essential job functions is given to Program Coordinators to formally identify and communicate job responsibilities. To assess job effectiveness in this position, a performance review [4] is completed along with the faculty member’s annual evaluation.
