Faculty Academic Advising Resource Site |
Advisement plays a crucial role in "providing comprehensive educational programs to improve the quality of life for the community it serves," which is one of the primary goals of the College's mission. Both students and advisors have important responsibilities in this process. Students must seek guidance, be knowledgeable about their programs and assume responsibility for degree completion. An advisor has the responsibility to:
Know the
Learning Support and
General Education Core requirements
Know the requirements for degrees and certificates
Assist students with selecting courses and adding and dropping courses
Be familiar with the Tennessee Transfer Pathways
Assist students with coming up with a successful transfer plan, if that is their goal
Be aware of college resources and be able and willing to refer students who need assistance
Be willing to talk with students about choosing a major and making educational choices and how they may affect their coursework
