Text Box: What is left to do for Banner HR?
Text Box: Part of the conversion process is, of course, moving data from the old system to the new system.  There are multiple parts to this process.  First, the current data on the old system must be scrubbed to ensure we only migrate clean data.  Work is currently progressing on this data clean up.  Duplicate personnel records are being identified and combined and conflicting or missing biographical data is being filled in and verified.  Second, the data fields in the old system must be “mapped” to the data fields on the new system.  This mapping allows the migration tool to determine where to put data as it populates the new database.  Finally, the data migration has to be tested to ensure the data will transfer properly and the new system will be able to process transactions appropriately.  Here is a link to the full project plan and another one listing all the steps necessary for conversion to Banner HR.

Text Box: Banner Human Resources (HR) is scheduled to “go live” on January 2, 2006.  Go live means we will start using the system for new transactions.  All parts of the system will not necessarily be turned on January 2nd.  For example, the HR Employee Self-Service and the Web for Time Entry pieces will probably not become operational until later in the spring of 2006.  At the go live date, all current data should be in the new system, but historical data may not be converted yet.  Historical data would include former employees’ records, old job descriptions or titles, and possibly even payroll history.  W-2s for 2005, for example, will probably be cut out of the old system.
Training has already started for the HR conversion.  There are a total of 13, week-long classes the conversion team leaders and others will attend.  Programmers with primary or secondary responsibility for HR will attend two courses in addition to these thirteen.  About half of the classes take place at Austin Peay State University and about half take place at East Tennessee State University.  So far, two of the classes have been held and the second technical class is going on this week.

Text Box: Where are we in the conversion process?
