Text Box: How much progress has been made so far?
Text Box: Banner HR implementation is in full swing.  Banner Finance training started this week, and training for Banner Student will start in September.  The full training schedule is available on the NSCC Banner Web Site.
The initial “go live date” for Banner HR is January 2nd, 2006.  While the HR module will start being utilized for actual transactions on that day, not all functionality will be implemented by then.  The conversion and implementation process will continue until June 30th, 2006, when HR will be fully implemented.  Some features that will not be implemented until the spring include the web time entry and employee self service.
Based on the initial start date of March 21st, 2005, the Banner HR conversion is just over a third complete.  All tasks are on schedule, and a test mini-payroll will be run over the next several days.

Text Box: As the last issue of this newsletter talked about, the number one way people can prepare for the conversion to Banner is to attend training and complete the self-study materials (books, computer-based training, etc.).

The next most critical aspect of the conversion, however, deals with the data on our current system.  As the old adage says, “garbage in, garbage out.”  If we want Banner to provide us with accurate reports and an efficient system, we have to ensure only good, accurate data is input into the system or converted over from the old system.  Data cleanup can, and should, be done right now.  A set of data standards documents are on the NSCC Banner web site.  Start by reading the TBR Data Standards Template.  (Pay particular attention to the section titled Data Change Rules.)

If you enter or modify data, then you can help by ensuring all data entered from this point forward meets the new standards.  In addition, you can start going back through current data and changing it to meet the standards.  The area most in need of work is changing all names and addresses to mixed case (instead of all caps) and correct abbreviations (i.e. Ln for Lane).

Text Box: What can I be doing right now to prepare for Banner?
Text Box: Judy Cook is the scheduler for the HR and Finance Banner module conversions.  After retiring from AT&T as a Staff Manager, Judy started in HR with the college in 1999, and moved to the President’s office in 2001.  She became a Certified Professional Secretary in January, 2005.
