The purpose of this online orientation is to familiarize you with the library and the services it offers. The tutorial will cover the different services and materials the library offers, as well as how to locate these materials.
At the end of the library orientation you will be asked to take a short quiz.
The library is open the following hours:
M-TH: 7:30 am – 8:00 pm
F: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm
S: 9:00 am – 2: 00 pm
Students may borrow as many books as they wish, but remember to be courteous of other students' needs.
Books are checked out for four weeks and may be renewed once.
Videos and DVDs may be checked out for one week.
Textbooks are on reserve and may be used for two hours in the library.
Magazines may not be checked out.
There are no fines for overdue library materials; however, you may be charged for replacement costs if the material is not returned.
If your instructor tells you they have placed an item on Reserve, it will be located behind the circulation desk in the library. These materials are checked out two hours and must remain in the library.
If Mayfield Library does not own a book or article that you need for your research, you can request a copy through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Please allow at least a week to receive your materials.
Call number: Located on the spine of the book, the call number is like the book’s address. Use it locate the item in the library. Kisber Library uses Library of Congress classification. For more information on how to read call numbers click here.
Database: Databases are a searchable collection of electronic records. The Nashville State databases include articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers. To access the NSCC databases off campus, you'll need your A number and pin.
eBook: An electronic book available online. Kisber Library ebooks are part of NetLibrary.
Stacks: Books on the second floor of the library. These books may be checked out and circulate for one month.
Safari eBook: Safari eBooks is a digital library of technology related materials. If you need a technology related book, this should be your first stop.
