Browser Check

For your system to work properly, you should perform a browser check. This needs to be one only once provided your system settings are not changed. Errors in NS Online courses may result if your browser is not set properly.

When you click the Browser Check link, a page displays indicating whether you have passed all of the requirements. If you fail a requirement, "failed" will display. Shown below is an example of a "passed" browser check.

Download and install java on your computer. Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and search for your operating system. The instructions link on that page provides guidance in downloading and installing java.

The display setting should be set to 1024 x 768 or greater running 16 bit color.

NOTE: If you are still having problems and are using McAfee or Norton antivirus software, temporarily disable these programs and see if it fixes the problem. McAfee and Norton have built-in firewalls that may block content.

You need to set your browser to display the latest version of a file. For Internet Explorer, click on Tools > Internet Options then click the General tab and click the Settings button. Click the button to the left of "Every visit to the page."

For Firefox 1.6, click on FireFox > Tools > Options > Advanced. Click on the cache tab and change it to 0. Click on the "Clear cache now" button, and close. For Firefox 2, click on Tools > Options > Advanced > Network, change the cache value to 0.
