Welcome to each of you! My primary goal for the semester is to help you have a successful experience as you progress through your studies. Scroll down this page and you will find a link to access your course and a variety of resources which will be helpful as the semester progresses, including: course syllabus, assignments and semester calendar, study suggestions, instructor's notes, PowerPoint Presentations, NS Online log in, practice tests and more.
We will use the email program within NS Online for all courses as a reliable way to stay in touch this semester. The program is very effective and your name and course are always included in the message. Please include your name and course in messages if you should use a personal email address. I am responding to numerous emails from students in many courses this semester and it is not always clear which course you are referring to or who is sending the message when it comes from a personal email address.

Access to the
NS Online component for all
courses, study aids, tests, and exams will be available on the first day of classes for the semester.
The benefit which you can derive from your course is related directly to the
effort which you put into your studies. Attendance, defined as completing
assignments on time, is critical to your success. Dates are published for
the last opportunity to complete various assignments such as chapters to
read, and tests and exams to complete. These dates will not be extended. A
student that stops attending (completing assignments on time) during the
semester, and does not withdraw, will be assigned a grade of “FA” - Failure,
attendance related (unofficial withdrawal). A student that never attends,
and does not withdraw, will be assigned a grade of “FN” - Failure, never
attended class (unofficial withdrawal).
Two Requirements For All Web-Course Students

2)

A Bit of Advice for Web-Course
Students
I suggest that you
read carefully the requirements for your course and the FAQ's prior to purchasing the
textbook to be certain that a distance course is for you.
Web courses are a wonderful educational opportunity, BUT they
are not appropriate for all students. Web courses are more challenging in many ways than traditional classroom
courses. I encounter students each semester who realize, often too late, that a
traditional classroom course would have been more appropriate for them. You
may "test drive" a sample Web course if you would like to get a preview.
Click this link to the login page for
NS Online where you will see the information necessary to log in to a sample
course.
Do not enroll in a Web course if you normally wait until the last opportunity to complete assignments. The most common mistake students make is procrastination, usually because of family and work responsibilities. I understand those competing responsibilities very well since I worked full time and raised a family during my college years; however, we make a commitment to fulfill the responsibilities associated with our courses when we enroll. You must complete the assignments for Web courses absolutely no later than the dates indicated. I encourage you to work ahead of the calendar dates and complete the assignments early to avoid surprises on the last day to complete a test or exam. The usual last-minute difficulties each semester include: computer malfunction, had to work late, illness, car troubles, read the calendar date wrong, etc. Believe me, something unexpected will happen if you wait until the last day and I do not approve extensions! The dates published in the semester calendar are not the due dates, they are the last opportunity to complete a test or exam. I expect that students will not wait until the last opportunity.
I wish you well with your studies and look forward to working with you!
