Word Part V Transcript

To insert ClipArt, click on Insert, Picture, ClipArt. Enter the search term. We will search for "dog." Use a subject to identify the type of clipart you are trying to locate. You can search all collections or specific collections. I'll leave it set to "everywhere." We can select media types. If I want only clipart, or if I want only photographs, music, movies, or sounds, I can select all of those or click the All Media Types button. Then click Go. When the images display, scroll through the images to locate the image that you desire. Click on the image. The clipart will be inserted into your Word document.

To resize an image, click on the image to select it. To resize proportionately, move to one of the corner handles until you see a double-pointing, diagonal arrow. Click and hold the left mouse button and pull in to resize the picture to a smaller size. Once you do, it would be good to click on View, Toolbars and make sure the picture toolbar is displayed. Click on Compress Picture. That will help you reduce the file size. To disproportionately adjust the picture--if I want to make the dog a bit thinner--I can use a side handle. You will notice it disproportionately changes the picture. Based on what you are wanting to do with the image, that is certainly a possibility. Use side handles only if you want to change the proportions in the picture.

To edit an image, click on the image to select it. Handles will appear around the image, and the picture toolbar should display. If the picture editing toolbar does not display, click on View, Toolbars, and click on Picture. Use the buttons to make adjustments to the picture. You can experiment with these. You will notice you can adjust the color, make it various appearances. There is a washout, which is a little extreme, grayscale, and automatic, which is what we had. You can add more or less contrast to the picture, more or less brightness. Notice how the brightness changes. The picture can be cropped. Use the handles around the picture to cut off portions. If we wanted to focus on the eyes, we could crop the picture to include only that portion. The picture can be rotated. We can add lines around the picture--various styles. There is an option to compress the picture. If the picture has been resized, compressing will create a small file size and decrease the size of the file.

To position a picture once it has been inserted, you can right-click on the image and choose Format Picture. Before we do that, notice that this is an inline picture. There is text--the picture was inserted at this point--and then there is text. So, if we add text, the picture moves. Do you see how it moves if we add text? It moves with the text. To change the placement, right-click and choose Format, Picture. Choose the layout. There are various options here. I'll show you a couple. It is interesting to experiment with these. One is to choose Square. Then you can choose the alignment, whether you want left, center, right, or other. One is a Tight arrangement, meaning the text fits tightly around the image as opposed to square. There is a square block where the text is placed. So I'll click OK and you will see the difference. The text fits around the image and will continue to wrap. If we had additional text, it would fit on each side of the image as close as possible to the image. I'll right-click again and choose Format, Picture. You can place the image behind the text. I'll click that option and click OK. Now we have the text actually appearing on top of the picture. If I add additional text, it will continue to display on top of the image. So you make choices based on where you want the image to be placed. Any of those choices except the inline image allow you to click on the image. When you see the four-pointed arrow, you can drag the image to anywhere on the page. If we do a right-click here and go back and format the picture and choose "tight," you will see that the text is appearing around the picture but as close as possible to the picture.

To insert an image from a file, click where you want to insert the image then choose Insert, Picture, From File. Locate the picture on your computer--and this is the picture we want to insert--click on the picture and click Insert. You can then click on the picture and make any adjustments to the image that are desired.
