CIS 1010-770 Introduction to Electronic Data Processing SYLLABUS - Spring 2003
I N T R O D U C T I O N: Welcome to Introduction to EDP on CD-ROM
Regardless of your background knowledge of computers (whether that amounts to quite a lot, just a little, or nothing at all), you are beginning a course that will help you become well acquainted with one of the most important technologies of this century. This course is built around a CD-ROM that is included with the purchase of a textbook and is also installed in Nashville Tech's computer labs. (There are no VCR videos for this course.)
Follow the SCHEDULE (on Page 4) to see chapter assignments, lab assignments, review sessions, and test deadlines. See Pages 2 and 3 for details of the components of this course.. Page 4 has the SCHEDULE.
Good luck and call me if you need help.

CD-ROM: The CD-ROM is ready for use. There is nothing to install on your computer. Roman Numeral pages xii thru xv of the textbook discusses the content of the CD-ROM. On page xiii, "New LABS" presents information about the set of new labs incorporated into this edition of the textbook and also about the "Classic Course Labs". The labs assigned for this semester are from the "Classic Course Labs" on your CD-ROM.
If you are using a computer in the Nashville State Tech open lab, choose the Course Presenter icon to activate the software.
The first screen offers several choices as shown by the illustration below:
LAB ASSIGNMENTS (HOMEWORK)
Lab assignments constitute 10% of your grade. They are presented through the CD-ROM under "Open a Classic Course Lab". When a lab is opened, you will be presented with two options, STEPS and EXPLORE. We are only using the STEPS option which I have designated as #1. When using the CD-ROM to accomplish Steps (always #1), you will be required to key in your name and section ID (the Section ID is CIS 1010-770) for identification of the printout you will turn in. Always print the "Quick Check Report" and provide all other printouts the Steps assignment requests, if any.
Exact requirements are listed in the SCHEDULE on page 4. All lab assignments are due on the accompanying test deadline. You may turn labs in at the Testing Center on or before the test due date OR they may be mailed (postmarked on or before the test due date) to:
Ted Washington
Nashville State Tech
120 White Bridge Rd.
Nashville, TN 37209
Lab assignments that are late will be worth half credit or less.

If you want to attend but can't make the scheduled time, call me for other arrangements.
