Welcome to FIN 1210, Consumer Lending!

As your instructor, I look forward to working with you on this course.  Taking a web course provides you with the opportunity to learn and to work through the course at times and places that are convenient for you.   I know that many will be self propelled this semester and will not need my assistance, but I am only a few keystrokes away if you should need me. I prefer to use the D2L email utility; however, you can contact me at Valerie.stroop@nscc.edu if D2L should be unavailable.

I am also available to help via telephone (615.353.3425) or in my office (C-232F) on campus.  I am usually in my office on Tuesday and Thursday during the fall and spring semesters, and on Tuesday mornings during the summer. Please contact me for an appointment if you wish to meet in my office.

A schedule (calendar) is provided for you at this web site.  I strongly recommend that you follow the schedule for each week so that you can complete the course on time--and don't procrastinate! Please read the Course Syllabus, Schedule, and Assignments sections carefully so you will know what is expected of you in the class. The required assignments in FIN 1210 for this semester are to read the chapters, submit homework assignments, submit the two credit application case studies, and complete the four tests. Developing a comprehensive understanding of this subject will require more than simply reading the book.  I strongly recommend using the Study Suggestions when preparing for the tests. The PowerPoint Chapter Presentations are also excellent reviews of each chapter.

The most important suggestion that I can offer is to stay on (or ahead of) schedule! I encourage you to complete assignments ahead of the scheduled dates. All tests are available now, and you can complete the course ahead of schedule if you wish. Keep in mind that access to all online tests will end precisely at the published deadlines, and I do not grant extensions.

You do not need to send an email message letting me know that you have logged in to our course as required on the first day. NS Online automatically documents your login. Let me know if you have questions, and please notify me if you discover broken links or inaccuracies.
