To check spelling in a document, either choose Tools, Spelling and Grammar from the menu or use the F7 shortcut key or click on Spelling and Grammar. The spelling and grammar dialog box will open, and the first spelling error is encountered. "Entr" should be "entry." If the word is in the suggested list and is selected, you will click Change. If it had been one of these other terms, you can select the other term then click Change. In this case, the next word is marked red, "Ober." We know that is the correct spelling of the person's name who was used as a reference here, so we will choose Ignore Once. If that reference had been used several places in the documents, Ignore All would ignore the rest of the spelling of "Ober" in the document. And once the spell check is completed, click OK. Please NOTE: Spelling check does not find all of your mistakes. I want to point one out here. In this line, it should say, "the remaining lines of the heading." Because "lined" is a correct word, the system does not understand that word is an error. So spelling check will not find all of your mistakes. It is still important to edit your document. Read it carefully and make changes in addition to using spell check.
If your instructor has asked you to use a specific number of words in a document, Microsoft Word can help you determine how many words are in the document. Click on Tools then click on Word Count. A report indicates how many pages, how many words, characters--with and without spaces--how many paragraphs are in the document, and how many lines. This is a nice helpful bit of information in case you need the word count.
To print a document, you can print by using the printer icon. Clicking the printer icon sends the document to the printer and does not stop with a print dialog box. That's problematic if you are printing at Nashville State because the default printer will not print; it makes a file copy. I'll show you in just a moment. The best choice is to choose File and choose Print. The print dialog box open, and you notice there is a printer here. By default many of the printers at Nashville State are Microsoft Office Document Image Writer. What that will do is create a file for you similar to an image. That's not what you want. So choose the printer in the location where you are. You can choose to print all pages, only the current page, or a specified number of pages. If I wanted to print pages 1 through 5, I would put 1-5. I'll leave it set at All. Choose the number of copies by keying in the number or rotating the number and then click OK.
