Update from the President<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Greetings Fellow Falcons,  <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summer term is underway, and students are back on campus! Although the pace may be a little slower now for some, it is still a very critical time of the year as we are actively planning for the Fall 26-Spring 27 academic year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below are a few updates from the Office of the President: <\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commencement <\/strong>\u2013 <\/strong>Our 62nd Commencement was held on Tuesday, May 12. A historic number of students walked the stage!  In fact, we did not have enough chairs for Faculty and Staff to sit inside the arena during the ceremony. We were not successful in finding a venue for a December graduation, but we are exploring a second Spring ceremony to accommodate our growing number of graduates. Evelyn Hadley is to be commended for her leadership! I also want to thank the Commencement committee and our host of volunteers for another wonderful ceremony.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TBR Board Meeting<\/strong> \u2013 Nashville State will cohost the June Quarterly Board meeting with TCATs Nashville and Dickson. I want to extend a special thanks to Natalie Olsen, Kathleen Duff, Chris Bledsoe and all involved in planning this special event for the system. You are invited to watch the Board Meetings on June 11 from 1:00-4:30pm and Friday, June 12 from 9:00am-12:00pm in person from the second-floor balcony. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the TBR board in action and hear about system initiatives. The meetings will also be livestreamed. More details will be shared through Campus Announcements a few days before the meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Convocation<\/strong> \u2013 Fall\u202fConvocation\u202fwill be an\u202fin-person event\u202fon the\u202fWhite Bridge Road campus.\u202fAll full-time and regular part-time staff are expected to attend\u202funless otherwise directed by your supervisor; temporary or adjunct employees are welcome to attend. If you are new to Nashville State,\u202fConvocation\u202fis our time as college employees to kick off the new academic year with a review of what we have accomplished and where we are headed in the new year. It is also a great time to connect with your fellow Falcons! The theme this year is MUSIC CITY \u2014 whatever your taste in music, represent it with your favorite genre, concert or band apparel (work appropriate). <\/strong>More details will be sent in August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrollment Update <\/strong>\u2013 Summer classes start this week, and Fall Registration continues. Summer enrollment is up 8% and FTE is up 7.3%. Fall is up 9.6% in HC and 13.1% in FTE. Stay data informed by visiting the Data Access Page<\/a> which also has information regarding applications, persistence and retention data. Please contact Institutional Research if you have any questions.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wellness \u2013<\/strong> For those who read the Voice routinely, I continue to leave space in my update on Wellness. It is very important that we invest in our own well-being and support each other.  Today is the day you should reach out to the programs and resources available online through Partners for Health and Emotional Wellbeing Solutions (formerly EAP) if you need to make lifestyle changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are Nashville State!  I am thankful for the opportunity to serve with each of you. Our work is making a difference. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Workforce Minute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the East Davidson campus at the Nashville State Workforce Center, community engagement continues to grow, bringing new opportunities directly to our students. Recently, the Nashville Fire Department spent two weeks on-site conducting employee training and invited our Medical Assistant students to observe and participate in portions of the experience. This hands-on exposure offered valuable insight into advanced procedures and real-world applications, reinforcing the impact of strong community partnerships on student learning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of those students shares a firsthand perspective on how this experience influenced their learning and career interests.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hands-On Learning at the East Davidson Campus <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

As I complete the Medical Assistant program at Nashville State Community College, I\u2019ve spent a lot of time reflecting on how meaningful this experience has been for me both academically and personally. Through the Ready to Reconnect Workforce Development initiative, I was given the opportunity to return to school with renewed motivation and a clearer vision for my future in healthcare. From supportive instructors to unique hands-on learning opportunities\u2014we were learning Phlebotomy by week two!\u2014Nashville State has created an environment where I\u2019ve been able to grow not only as a student, but as a person preparing to care for others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One experience that especially stood out to me was participating in a sheep brain dissection at the East Davidson Campus. During the Nashville Fire Department\u2019s quarterly in-service training, a neurosurgeon joined as a special guest speaker to teach about the anatomy and function of the brain while guiding us through the dissection in a lecture hall setting. My classmate Elizabeth and I completed the dissection together, and it was incredible to study a brain so closely related to human anatomy while learning directly from a specialist in the field. Seeing structures we had previously only read about in textbooks right in front of us made the experience unforgettable. Moments like these are what make Nashville State such a special place to learn, and they remind me of why I chose a career in medicine in the first place! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
