February 2024 Report
In February 2024, The Teaching Center scheduled, promoted, moderated, and updated The Teaching Center’s data tracking of attendance for 17 professional development sessions. The Teaching Center promoted 28 professional development opportunities during February, including those from TBR and outside groups.
The Teaching Center held interviews for Faculty Fellows for 2024-2026. 4 applications were received for 2 positions. Kurstin Bush and Audrey Cross were selected to serve as fellows starting in August 2024 through May 2026.
The Teaching Center continued to lead 3 professional learning communities.
- The Impact Players PLC included faculty and staff and concluded on February 23.
- The Pedagogy of the Oppressed PLC includes faculty, staff, and administrators and includes representation from all Schools and from all NSCC campuses.
The Teaching Center continues to lead and facilitate a cohort of NSCC faculty in the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices course. The Teaching Center has worked with Finance for approval of the contract for 2024-2025 for the ACUE Effective Online Teaching Practices cohort. Cohort applications are scheduled to be opened in mid-March.
The Teaching Center is engaging in campus visits to all NSCC campuses this spring. Three campus visits were held in February with more campus visits scheduled in the upcoming months.
The Teaching Center promoted the TBR Open Education Resources Grant by providing an information session, hosting question and answer session, and engaging in individual consultations with faculty interested in pursuing this grant opportunity.
This academic year, The Teaching Center has led NSCC employees in 2,145.36 hours of professional development, including 1372.67 hours focused on Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices (CRTP.)
Since 2019, The Teaching Center has led NSCC employees in 8,435.96 hours of professional development, including 4,645.56 hours focused on Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices (CRTP.)
