Nashville State Community College supports faculty growth and is pleased to be able to provide you with an opportunity that begins this fall designed to enhance our campus commitment to faculty and student success. The Teaching Center at Nashville State Community College is partnering with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) to offer the ACUE Effective Practice Framework® to interested full-time faculty participants.
The ACUE Effective Practice Framework® prepares college instructors to use research-based techniques shown to help students succeed in online learning, face-to-face learning, and combinations of these delivery formats, and completion of the course leads to a nationally-recognized Certificate in Effective College Instruction endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). Through investment in professional development for faculty by Nashville State Community College, the ACUE Effective Practice Framework® will be offered at no cost to you and will run from August 2023 through May 2024 of the 2023-2024 academic year.
ACUE’s courses on effective college instruction are delivered online, through a research-based learning design that is certified by Quality Matters (QM). NSCC’s course will be completed over two semesters. In ACUE’s cohort-based programs, faculty learn about—and are required to implement—a comprehensive body of evidence-based teaching practices shown to improve student engagement, persistence, course completion, and learning in online learning, face-to-face learning, and combinations of these delivery formats.

ACUE Effective Practice Framework® is a research-based, consensus statement of the instructional skills and knowledge that every college educator should possess, regardless of mode of course delivery, discipline or type of institution. The Framework’s 25 core competencies are organized into five major areas of practice:
• Designing an Effective Course
• Establishing a Productive Learning Environment
• Using Active Learning Strategies
• Promoting Higher Order Thinking
• Assessing to Inform Instruction and Promote Learning
Participating faculty will complete a 2-hour course kick-off, engage in weekly course work estimated at 2 to 3 hours, and interact with the NSCC cohort and cohort leader. The Teaching Center will be facilitating and organizing the ACUE program for NSCC faculty.
