Convert PDF to HTML

PDF files that are images are not accessible. If the PDF file is the only source, try using the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) option in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. Watch the OCR Movie.

Method 1

This is probably the simplest and quickest way to clean up PDF files; however, it strips "all" formatting, including images and tables. They will have to be re-created.

Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat. If PDF opens in the Reader, it should also allow you to select text. Select all text with CTRL + A; copy all text with CTRL + V. Go to D2L and Create a New File. Click the Browse for Template button and select a template. Click in the document window and choose Paste as Plain Text.

Go to the document screen and paste using CTRL + V or right-click and paste. Generally use the following keystrokes: IE (right-click and paste); Firefox (CTRL + V); Chrome (CTRL + V or right-click and paste).

Method 2

If Adobe Acrobat Pro XI is available, try saving the PDF file to HTML then

Step 1

• Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
• Choose Save as Other > HTML Web Page.

• Locate the saved HTML file on your computer. The images are saved in a folder with the same name as the HTML file. Open the HTML file, select all (CTRL + A) and copy (CTRL + C).
  
  

Step 2

• Go to the HTML-Cleaner (new window) and paste the code into the Source window. Click on the Clean HTML button. If desired, make editing changes using the tools in the Source window.
• Select all and copy all of the content from the Source window.

Step 3

• Go to D2L, create a new file, select a template, and paste the text into the D2L editor.
• If there are images, go to Manage Files in D2L. Create an images folder. Upload the images to the folder.
• Edit the HTML document in D2L using the tools provided. Insert the images and edit the document. See Edit HTML in D2L.
