The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform high-quality CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills. This comprehensive course emphasizes the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, integrates effective team dynamics, and focuses on high-performance resuscitation.
Participants will learn how to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course covers both adult and pediatric CPR, including single- and multi-rescuer scenarios, as well as the management of choking.
Course content includes:
High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
The AHA Chain of Survival
Use of an AED
Effective ventilations using a barrier device
Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation
Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking)
This course is intended for nurses, EMTs, medical assistants, dental professionals, and other healthcare providers. Upon successful completion, students receive an AHA BLS Provider eCard, valid for two years.
The course includes hands-on practice and skills testing in a classroom setting led by a certified AHA instructor. Participants are required to pass both a written exam and a skills test to receive certification.
