Evaluating Web Pages  Citing Web Resources

Anytime Internet resources are quoted or the author's ideas are used, the material should be properly cited. Please quotation marks around short quotes and indent long quotes. When you use general information or facts that are common to a number of sources, you don't have to cite the references.

"Using MLA Style to Cite and Document Sources" by Bedford/St. Martin's, a college publisher, lists elements that should be included in a citation along with  examples. At the Bedford Web site, click on the WWW link to see information that is to be included in a citation for a World Wide Web site. http://www.bedfordstmartins.com/online/cite5.html

EasyBib at http://www.easybib.com/ is a site where you can submit bibliographic information and the program will help you write an MLA bibliography entry. Please note that this site includes advertisements.

You can also have your citations composed for you using the Citation Machine.

Activity

Find a Web page with information that you would likely quote in a class assignment. Use EasyBib and the Citation Machine to help you create the MLA bibliography entry. Compare the two entries with each other then compare them to the information at the Bedford Web site listed above.
