Nashville State Technical Community College has a clearly defined mission statement, which reads:

“The mission of Nashville State Technical Community College is to provide comprehensive educational programs and partnerships, exemplary services, an accessible, progressive learning environment, and responsible leadership to improve the quality of life for the communities it serves.”

The strategic planning and operations of the college are guided by this statement.  Career/technical academic programs are designed implemented to meet the needs of Nashville area employers.  Areas of emphasis within transfer programs are developed to facilitate transfer to area universities of most interest to our graduates.  The Workforce Training Center focuses the college’s continuing education programs focus on promoting the economic development of the Nashville community.  The college partners with business and industry, with other private and public colleges and universities, and with K-12 systems in the service area.  One major partnership is the Middle College High School (MCHS) housed on the Nashville State campus.  MCHS is a Metro Nashville public school that provides its students an opportunity to take college courses while enrolled in high school.

The mission statement is reviewed and revised as appropriate at least once every five years in preparation for the beginning of a new strategic planning cycle.  The current mission statement was recommended to the President by the campus Assessment and Planning Council, approved by the campus Executive Committee,  and then forwarded to the Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR).  The Board of Regents approved the mission statements for all 19 TBR colleges and universities, including Nashville State, on December 3, 2004, as recorded in their minutes [1].  The TBR will review the mission statement in 2009 or sooner if the institution requests such a review.

The mission statement is communicated to college constituencies through primary publications such as the catalog [2] and the viewbook.
