October 2024 Report
During October 2024, The Teaching Center:

  • Scheduled, promoted, moderated, and updated The Teaching Center’s data tracking of
    attendance for 12 professional development sessions from The Teaching Center.
    • 24 total PD sessions were promoted during October through The Teaching
      Center. These include free professional development opportunities from TBR and
      other entities.
  • Helped NSCC employees complete 920.71 hours of professional learning through The
    Teaching Center during the 2024-2025 academic year, which includes:
    • 411.48 hours – Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices professional learning.
    • 833.61 hours of professional learning emphasizing Learning.
    • 642.61 hours of professional learning emphasizing Equity Driven.
    • 736.71hours of professional learning emphasizing Accountability.
    • 663.11 hours of professional learning emphasizing Data-Informed.
    • 845.71 hours of professional learning emphasizing Student-Centered.
  • Moderated 2 professional learning communities (PLCs) for fall 2024.
    • The Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection by
      Charles Duhigg ended in September. 23 employees engaged in this PLC.
    • The second PLC focused on The Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace
      by Gary Chapman and Paul White and used data from Nashville State’s College
      Engagement Survey from fall 2023 and spring 2024 to inform the learning
      process.
  • Updated website with professional learning opportunities and resources.
  • Updated Professional Development Library with recordings of professional learning
    sessions.
  • Served as cohort advisor for NSCC’s first ACUE Effective Online Teaching Practices
    (EOTP) cohort. The cohort is completing the first module this week, and 5 cohort
    members have earned the ACUE EOTP Course Badge for Creating a Productive Online
    Learning Environment.
  • Began planning for Spring into Success Professional Learning Conference, which will be
    held January 13 – 16, 2025. The call for session proposals for this conference was sent in
    October to the college community.
  • Continue to build a professional learning resource in D2L for faculty. Our goal is for the
    resource to be available for all faculty in January 2025.
  • The Teaching Center has led NSCC employees in 9,516.17 hours of professional development since August 2019, including 5,181.04 hours focused on Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices (CRTP.)
