Call for Applications for Faculty Fellows 2025 – 2027
Mission of The Teaching Center Fellows
To provide services online, virtually, and at multiple NSCC campuses so that all faculty members, full-time and part-time, will have the opportunity to engage in the following activities:
- develop and employ skills and expertise which have been shown to increase student retention and completion rates;
- design and attend professional workshops which promote pedagogical excellence; and
- investigate future needs and articulate strategic directions for professional development for the faculty and campus.
The Teaching Center will be staffed by Faculty Fellows all chosen from full-time faculty. The Faculty Fellows are responsible for planning, promoting, implementing, and assessing professional development experiences for faculty and for conducting faculty-driven scholarship on institution-wide initiatives, challenges, and opportunities. The Faculty Fellows also play a major role in mentoring and/or consulting with faculty members seeking support and advice regarding improving their teaching practices.
What Does a Faculty Fellow Do?
- Plan, develop, implement, and assess appropriate and relevant professional development experiences for the faculty, particularly those associated with advancing pedagogy and student engagement across the institution.
- Engage in scholarly activity that meets institutional needs or addresses institutional challenges associated with improving teaching and student success at the college.
- Serve as mentor and/or consultant to faculty members who contact The Teaching Center.
- Assist the Teaching Center Director with assessing The Teaching Center programs and projects.
- Occasionally work in the evenings and on weekends.
- Occasionally travel throughout the service area, outside of the service area, and across the state for relevant meetings and activities.
- Serve four office hours in The Teaching Center each week and serve an additional 3.5 hours each week to meet the needs of The Teaching Center (weekly fellow meeting, development of workshops, travel to campuses, leading workshops, professional development, etc.)
- Serve a term of two years in The Teaching Center. (Faculty Fellows will rotate positions so that two or three fellows will be replaced each year.)
Who May Become a Faculty Fellow? (Minimum Qualifications)
- Must be full-time teaching faculty member at Nashville State Community College in good standing;
- Must hold the rank of Instructor or higher;
- Must have served at the college for a minimum of five years; and
- Have a strong record of teaching effectiveness, service to students and to the college, and performance of faculty duties/responsibilities
How Are Faculty Fellows Compensated?
- Each academic year, the Fellow will be awarded 6 TLCs of reassigned time (3 TLCs each fall and spring semesters).
Application Procedures:
The current Teaching Center Fellows, the Dean of Learning Resources, and one dean or director will facilitate the selection process with appropriate consultation with the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The President has final approval.
Please submit the following items to indicate your interest in becoming a Faculty Fellow beginning fall semester 2025. Submit these items in email attachments to amy.bryant@nscc.edu before Monday, January 27, 2025, at 5 pm:
- Statement of Interest
- Teaching Philosophy
- Current Resume
- Three letters of recommendation from faculty and/or administration
Upon receiving application materials, The Teaching Center will notify each applicant, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the respective Deans or Directors in writing that the application has been received. If a Dean or Director believes that awarding reassigned time to an applicant will cause undue hardship for the division, he or she must make an appeal to the VPAA who will determine if the application will be denied. If denied, VPAA and Dean or Director will notify the applicant and The Teaching Center Director in writing.
Interviews with faculty applicants will be scheduled in February of each year.
The Selection Committee will recommend candidates to the VPAA and the President of the College.
The Selection Committee will notify, in writing, the selected applicants, the respective Deans and Directors, and the Faculty Senate President.
Faculty who do not receive a position will receive written notification.
Faculty Fellow, The Teaching Center Position Description A Faculty Fellow in The Teaching Center is responsible for planning, promoting, implementing and assessing professional development experiences for faculty and conducting faculty-driven scholarship on institution-wide questions, challenges and opportunities. Under the guidance and with the support of The Teaching Center Director and in collaboration with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, college administration, faculty and other college stakeholders, the Fellow works to advance pedagogical effectiveness and curricular innovation at the college. The fellow also works to promote development of the faculty and engages in academic scholarship to support the college’s educational and community engagement programs. |

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a full-time teaching faculty member at Nashville State Community College in good standing;Must hold the rank of Instructor or higher;Must have served at the college for a minimum of five years;Have a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness, service to students and to the college, and performance of faculty duties/responsibilities; andSubmit three letters of recommendation from faculty and/or administration. |
Desired Qualifications: Holds the rank of Assistant Professor or higher;Has experience teaching in multiple modalities, including on-ground, virtual, and online; andHas experience leading faculty and/or developing and implementing student success strategies within a higher education environment. |
Special Working Conditions: Occasional work in the evenings and on weekends and travel throughout the service area may be required. The Faculty Fellow may occasionally be required to travel outside of the service area and across the state for relevant meetings and activities. |
