“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” Understanding the Poverty Mindset
Why do some people manage to exceed their circumstances and others are trapped in a cycle of poverty? How are students from lower economic circumstances different from those with a middle class upbringing? I will be sharing insights from 3 books: “A Framework for Understanding Poverty” by Dr. Ruby Payne, “What Happened to You?” by Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Bruce Perry and “Scarcity” by Sendhil Mullainathan & Eldar Shafir.
