Faculty sets the tone for the Student’s first year experience. Our knowledge of the various aspects of the Quality Enhancement Plan will help ensure a successful experience. We help students find their mark. We set the bar for achieving their goals. We provide both hurdles and cheers. We are the track, the target, and directions to the finish.
Keep the QEP alive in your class
- Look for ways to incorporate the “On Your Mark” slogan in your classes.
- Relate course content to real life situations
- During the middle-end of the semester, talk about advising and registering.
Be a dynamic advisor
- Ask lots of questions about interests, hobbies, and history.
- Help students analyze their academic performance patterns.
Model an understanding of the connections between academic and career goals.
- Talk about your own career path
- Share interesting anecdotes relating to your field of study.
Model self-reflection.
- Share anecdotes of how education affected your life.
- Remind students that the journey is an important process in getting to their goals.
- Take opportunities to reflect on how your work affects the educational process of your students.
Look for opportunities to volunteer
- Having faculty present at information kiosks during the beginning days of the semester is a great way to welcome students and make connections.
- Look for opportunities in your division to share resources.
